How Does Botox Work?

Botox works by weakening specific muscles, which results in the relaxing and softening of wrinkles. Botox has also been used to cure certain diseases, such as uncontrolled blinking and lazy eye.

Botox blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles. The injected muscle can no longer contract, which causes the wrinkles to relax and soften.

It is most often used on forehead lines, crow's feet (lines around the eye) and frown lines. Wrinkles caused by sun damage and gravity will not respond to Botox.

How Is the Procedure Performed?

Anesthesia is not required at our Athens botox clinic. Botox is injected with a very small needle and is relatively painless. The complete effect takes a few days, up to 7.

How Long Does a Botox Injection Last?

Botox injections last up to half a year. Muscles eventually strength and the lines and wrinkles re-appear. Botox can always be retreated at this time for to achieve the desired results. More often than not, when the lines reappear they are less noticeable, due to the relaxation of the muscles from the first Botox treatment.

The effects from Botox will last four to six months. As muscle action gradually returns, the lines and wrinkles begin to re-appear and wrinkles need to be re-treated. The lines and wrinkles often appear less severe with time because the muscles are being trained to relax.
